Who each one suits, and its limit
Portfolio TerminalJulien Esnault, independent developer, France
Best forInvestors with US or European brokers who want a free web tracker with ETF look-through, FIFO gains and risk in plain English, without linking a bank login.
LimitNo automatic broker sync: you re-import a file or a screenshot when your holdings change. Prices come from Yahoo Finance and can lag the market by several minutes.[18]
Empower Personal DashboardEmpower, Greenwood Village, Colorado, USA
Best forUS investors who want every account, including 401(k)s and bank accounts, synced automatically for free, with retirement planning on top.
LimitSigning up means agreeing to marketing calls and texts, and the free tools sit next to a paid advisory service.[57]
Portfolio PerformanceAndreas Buchen and contributors, open source, Germany
Best forHands-on investors who want free, private, detailed performance math (true time-weighted return, IRR) on their own computer and don't mind setting it up.
LimitDesktop software you set up yourself, and the mobile app can't edit your data.[51]
SharesightSharesight Ltd, Wellington, New Zealand
Best forInvestors in Australia, New Zealand or Canada who need their country's capital-gains and income tax reports and are willing to pay.
LimitThe free plan stops at 10 holdings, closed positions included, and has no tax reports.[4]
Snowball AnalyticsSnowball Analytics SAS, Lyon, France
Best forDividend investors who want a dividend calendar, time-weighted and money-weighted returns, and automatic broker sync for under $80 a year.
LimitThe free plan stops at 10 holdings and 1 portfolio, and automatic broker linking starts with the paid Starter plan.[5]
getquinQUIN Technologies GmbH, Berlin, Germany
Best forEuropean investors, especially in Germany, who want many bank and broker accounts synced for free into one net-worth view.
LimitThe free tier is funded partly by in-app ads, and benchmarking is Premium-only.[58]
ParqetParqet Fintech GmbH, Hamburg, Germany
Best forGerman-speaking investors at Trade Republic, Scalable Capital, ING, comdirect or Consorsbank who want unlimited free holdings.
LimitAutomatic sync covers 5 German brokers and, for most of them, works only in the mobile app; everyone else imports files.[24]
DeltaOpus Labs NV (eToro group), Belgium
Best forCrypto-heavy investors and eToro users who want stocks, crypto wallets and exchanges in one app.
LimitBroker connections sync every 24 hours, and some only pull 90 days of trading data.[25]
FinaryFinary SAS, Paris, France
Best forFrench and European households who want bank, broker and crypto accounts synced automatically into one net-worth view.
LimitPerformance is an unrealized gain from the average buying price that ignores deposits and withdrawals, not a time- or money-weighted return.[45]
KuberaKubera Apps, Inc., San Francisco, USA
Best forWealthy households who track many kinds of assets and entities (property, private holdings, crypto) on one balance sheet and are fine paying $250 a year.
LimitNo free plan: $250 a year at the minimum once the 14-day trial ends.[10]
Google SheetsGoogle, Mountain View, USA
Best forFree do-it-yourself tracking of US and major-exchange stocks, for people comfortable writing formulas.
LimitQuotes may be delayed up to 20 minutes, most international exchanges are not supported, and history can't be read through the API.[28]
Microsoft ExcelMicrosoft, Redmond, USA
Best forPeople who already pay for Microsoft 365 and want to build every formula themselves.
LimitQuotes are delayed and not for trading; STOCKHISTORY needs a paid plan and has no history for most popular index funds, including the S&P 500.[59]

Free portfolio trackers: what people ask
What is the best free portfolio tracker?
It depends on how you want your holdings to get in. To sync US accounts for free: Empower Personal Dashboard. For free open-source desktop software: Portfolio Performance. For a free web tracker without linking accounts and with no holding cap: Portfolio Terminal. Sharesight, Snowball Analytics and Delta offer free plans capped at 10 holdings (checked October 5, 2026).
Which free portfolio trackers sync with my broker automatically?
On their free plans, Empower (US institutions), getquin (unlimited connections through finAPI, with in-app ads), Delta (unlimited connections, 10 assets), Finary (2 accounts) and Parqet (Autosync for 5 German brokers) sync automatically. Snowball Analytics starts syncing with its $79.99-a-year Starter plan. Portfolio Terminal and Portfolio Performance have no automatic sync.
Which portfolio trackers show what is inside my ETFs?
Snowball Analytics (Fund X-Ray), getquin (Deep Dive, not every ETF), Sharesight (exposure report, from $7 a month billed yearly), Parqet (X-Ray, from Plus) and Portfolio Terminal (free; the issuers' full holdings files for 30 US ETFs, the top 10 holdings for other funds). Finary shows sector and country exposure on Plus.
Which free portfolio trackers calculate realized gains?
Portfolio Performance (FIFO or moving average) and Portfolio Terminal (FIFO, with a CSV export) do it for free. Sharesight's sold-securities report and Delta's gains reporting are on paid plans; Snowball Analytics, getquin and Parqet show realized profit without stating the cost method.
Do I have to give a portfolio tracker my bank login?
Only to sync automatically. Trackers that sync connect through aggregators such as Plaid, Yodlee, finAPI, Powens or SnapTrade. Portfolio Terminal and Portfolio Performance read files you download instead, so they never see a login; the trade-off is re-importing when your holdings change.
Is Portfolio Terminal really free?
Yes, with no holding limit and a guest mode that works without an account. A Pro plan is in development at $9 a month billed yearly; nothing is for sale today. The author of this page builds it.
